Nicosia to host annual dialogue of Mayors of EU capitals with Commission in 2026

The annual dialogue of Mayors of EU capitals with the European Commission will take place in Nicosia in 2026.

A press release by the Nicosia Municipality says that within the framework of the annual dialogue of the Mayors of the capitals of the European Union with the European Commission, which took place this year in Warsaw, Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos, officially took the responsibility to organise the 15th meeting, which will be held in Nicosia in 2026.

It is noted that in 2026 Cyprus will also hold the presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of the year.

The official handover ceremony took place at the end of the meeting in Warsaw, where the Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski, in the presence of Mayors of the EU capitals, the European Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration Piotr Serafin, representatives of the Committee of the Regions and other attendees, welcomed the hosting of the event by Nicosia.

The Mayor of Nicosia said that through the annual dialogue, local authorities have the opportunity to be heard, to exchange ideas and to propose solutions that meet the needs of citizens.

"Nicosia, as the organizing city in 2026, will work to promote innovative practices and strengthen the voice of cities in European affairs," he added.

During his speech, the Mayor highlighted the crucial importance of cities in the formulation and implementation of European policies.

He pointed out the need to strengthen the role of local authorities through a more targeted cohesion policy, capable of responding to modern challenges and needs.
