Tourist holiday spending - Who spends the most and who spends the least?

Tourism revenues showed a significant increase in both October and the first ten months of 2024, compared to the corresponding periods in 2023.

According to the results of the traveler survey announced by CySTAT, tourism revenues last October amounted to €407.9 million, showing an increase of 17.7% compared to the corresponding month in 2023 (€346.5 million).

At the same time, for the period January-October 2024, tourism revenues are estimated at €2,983.8 million compared to €2,802.6 million in the corresponding period in 2023, marking an increase of 6.5%.

Based on the same data, both the daily expenditure and the per capita expenditure of tourists who came to Cyprus in October increased compared to the corresponding month in 2023, while a decrease was recorded in the average length of stay of tourists.

Specifically, the daily expenditure amounted to €105.77 compared to €94.77 in October 2023, while the per capita expenditure amounted to €888.47 compared to €812.95 in October 2023.

Regarding the average length of stay in Cyprus, it decreased in October 2024 to 8.4 days compared to 8.7 days in the corresponding month of 2023.

The open-handed and the... tight-fisted

Further analysis of the data shows that the Belgians spent the most money per day of their stay in Cyprus (€150.97), while the Americans spent the most money throughout their vacation in our country (€1,442.54).

On the other hand, Greeks spent the least money, with daily spending at €52.69 and per capita spending at €389.87.

More specifically, the daily expenditure of tourists by country of origin is as follows:

  • Israel: €140.97
  • Switzerland: €138.52
  • Finland: €132.63
  • Austria: €129.20
  • Denmark: €128.28
  • Netherlands: €122.26

Regarding per capita tourist spending, it was as follows in October:

  • USA: €1,442.54

USA citizens stay in Cyprus for up to 15 days

Regarding the average length of stay of tourists in Cyprus, based on the same data, US citizens stayed on the island for the most days and Israelis for the least days.
