Herzog’s Cyprus visit officially confirmed

The President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, is paying a visit to Cyprus on 9 January and will meet with President Nikos Christodoulides at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia amid tight security measures and planned protests.

According to the Police, increased security measures will be taken during the Israeli President's visit. Specifically, from 16:00 until 21:00 (local time), roads will close for short periods at times in Larnaca district, on the Larnaca - Nicosia highway, and in Nicosia district.

Meanwhile, the Cyprus Peace Council is planning a protest at 16:00 at the Larnaca airport roundabout and at 16:30 a protest at the entrance of the Presidential Palace.

President Christodoulides will meet with the Israeli President after his arrival from Athens, where he will attend the funeral of former Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis at noon. The funeral will be held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens at noon.
