Local construction industry enters digital era with new proptech platform Projects.cy

The construction industry in Cyprus is undergoing a radical transformation with Projects.cy, an innovative proptech platform that modernises the bidding process for private construction projects.

Promising to promote transparency, fair competition, and efficiency for both property owners and contractors, Projects.cy is introducing a revolutionary way - for Cyprus' standards - to source bids and award construction projects, thus maximising efficiency and reducing construction costs.

In a press release, the company, Projects.cy, said that for years, finding building contractors for private construction projects − such as homes or apartment buildings − relied on personal connections, recommendations, or limited partner lists. While traditional, this system did not always ensure truly competitive offers or the best-suited professionals.

Many contractors, it said, even if they are an ideal match for a project (e.g, in close proximity to the project site, with available capacity and with matching time schedules), often remain unaware of such project opportunities. Meanwhile, those contractors that get invited to bid are sometimes too overloaded and busy or even uninterested in the project. The result? Limited competition, fewer options for property owners, and potentially higher construction costs.

This is where Projects.cy says it steps in, offering "a modern solution that ensures transparency, objectivity, and access to the entire network of licensed contractors in Cyprus".

Dimitris Christofides, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the platform, said: "In the era of digital transformation, the construction market cannot be left behind. Projects.cy harnesses the power of PropTech to intelligently connect property owners and contractors through an open, competitive process—ensuring equal opportunities, impartiality, and contained construction costs."

What does Projects.cy offer?

Projects.cy is a digital tendering platform that allows property owners, developers, architects, and engineers to post their building projects for free, to showcase them − anonymously −to all licensed contractors in Cyprus that meet their eligibility criteria, and receive truly competitive bids.

This, in turn, ensures:

- Competitiveness: By showcasing the project to a big part of the contractors market, best-suited contractors will be made aware of it and will be given an opportunity to bid, allowing owners to choose the best value-for-money option.

- Time & cost savings: According to the European Commission, open and competitive bidding processes (eProcurement) can reduce costs by up to 15%—a significant benefit given the sizeable cost of construction projects.

- Bids from contractors from other cities: Owners can expand their invitation for bids beyond their district, increasing the number of interested contractors and improving the chances of securing more affordable and high-quality bids.

- Contractor selection criteria: Users can set qualitative and quantitative criteria such as contractor class, experience, turnover, number of previous projects, and even custom requirements tailored to the needs of their project.

- Real-time notifications: Contractors are automatically notified about new projects listed on the platform, ensuring they never miss valuable opportunities due to lack of awareness.

Projects.cy is not simply a contractor search platform. It is a proptech solution that integrates digital innovation with the aim to create a transparent, fair, and efficient construction ecosystem.

According to Christofides, "Projects.cy is more than a tendering platform—it is a purpose-built digital system that empowers project owners (or their architects) to launch invitations for tenders and receive the best bids for their projects, ensuring fairness, competitiveness, and real value. Our goal is to bring innovation to Cyprus' construction landscape, making the process easier for everyone involved".

Projects.cy does not limit access to specific contractors. For each project listing, all licensed contractors in Cyprus who meet the project’s criteria are notified. There are no fees for property owners and architects, as the platform is completely free to use. Additionally, the bidding and awarding process remains fully transparent, as contractors submit their bids directly to the designated person (e.g., the owner or architect), enabling an objective comparison and selection.
