Cyprus moves up the ranks in corruption perception index

Cyprus has moved up the ranks of the Transparency International - Corruption Perceptions Index, going from 56 in 2023 to 53 in 2024, jumping three points.

The Corruption Perceptions Index scores and ranks countries by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, as assessed by experts and business executives.

There was a notable change for Cyprus improving its index rating by 3 points, from 53 in 2023 to 56. Its ranking has also improved by 3 places. This is the second consecutive year that Cyprus is improving its position, as in 2023 it improved by 1 point from 52 to 53.

Based on this second and accelerated improvement in 2024, Cyprus currently ranks 46th out of 180 countries and is just a small step before entering the first quartile of the most transparent jurisdictions out of these 180 countries.

The Cyprus Integrity Forum welcomes the continuous improvement in our country over the last couple of years which is an indication of the effectiveness of the various anti-corruption measures taken and the improved public awareness on matters of transparency. At the same time, it warns against complacency. We ALL need to remain focus in the fight against corruption, promoting ethics and transparency in all aspects of society and business and gradually we can elevate our Cyprus at the position it deserves.

As the leading anti-corruption non-governmental organisation in Cyprus, we will continue to monitor these rankings closely and take all appropriate actions to raise even higher the level of awareness as to the detrimental effects of corruption.
