Cyprus and UAE enter strategic cooperation in the field of Artificial Intelligence

The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy has announces a Strategic Cooperation with the United Arab Emirates in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

According to an official announcement, the aim is to promote the broader and more effective utilization of artificial intelligence, as a pillar of development and acceleration of the digital economy, as well as improving the quality of life of citizens of the two countries.

Through the signing of a relevant Memorandum, significant opportunities are created for the exchange of best practices, the promotion of joint research activities and research and innovation projects, the acceleration of the adoption of AI in the public and private sectors, as well as the development of capabilities that will contribute to building a stronger AI ecosystem in Cyprus and the UAE.

The Memorandum was signed in the context of the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025 in Dubai , between the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Dr. Nicodemos Damianou, and his counterpart, Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, and General Director of the Office of the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

After thanking his counterpart for his hospitality and his commitment to deepening cooperation between the two countries, Dr. Damianou stated that “the foundations are being laid for an even stronger, more tangible and more effective relationship, which can promote innovation and development, and propose solutions to common socio -economic challenges. “With Artificial Intelligence at the center of technological progress,” added the Deputy Minister, “international cooperation, especially with states that are pioneers in the field, such as the UAE, is vital to ensure that Artificial Intelligence is developed, effectively utilized and used responsibly. This Memorandum reflects our shared commitment to harness AI as a key pillar of development, for the benefit of our economies, industries and citizens.” "I believe," concluded the Deputy Minister, "that this is a collaboration that has the potential to develop into a regional effort for joint initiatives, which utilises, on the one hand, the geostrategic position and geopolitical importance of Cyprus and, on the other, the technological leadership of the UAE, from which we have a lot to learn."

The UAE Minister of AI also referred to the importance of strategic cooperation in his own statements, adding that the UAE continues to build global bridges of cooperation, promoting the exchange of know-how and accelerating digital innovation. “These partnerships,” he continued, “reflect the goals and vision of the WGS 2025 Summit itself, regarding the importance of strengthening international cooperation, as well as the UAE’s position as a global innovation hub in the field of artificial intelligence, and contribute significantly to building a sustainable future based on advanced technologies.”
