Cyprus and Egypt agree to cooperate on the economic empowerment of women

Ways of implementing the Memorandum of Cooperation for the Economic Empowerment of Women in Tourism and Support to the Women's Complaints Bureau were discussed, by Commissioner for Gender Equality, Josie Christodoulou, and President of the National Council for Women (NCW) of Egypt, Amal Ammar.
The agreements had been signed signed on 8 January 2025, in the framework of the Cyprus-Egypt Intergovernmental Summit, and were also among the things discussed between Christodoulou and Ammar in Cairo on 17 February.
According to a press release from the Commissioner's office, Christodoulou on 17 February presented an update on the government's multi-level actions to promote equality between women and men through the National Strategy for Gender Equality.
Ammar referred to the actions of the National Council for Women aimed at promoting women in decision-making centres, efforts for women's economic empowerment and the Council's action to prevent and combat violence against women, the press release adds.
During the meeting, ways of implementing the Memorandum of Cooperation for the Economic Empowerment of Women in Tourism and Support to the Women's Complaints Bureau, which was signed on 8 January 2025, in the framework of the Cyprus-Egypt Intergovernmental Summit, by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, were discussed.
They also exchanged views on practical ways of cooperation between NCW and the Office of the Gender Equality Commissioner to further strengthen women's rights and promote gender equality.
