President Nikos Christodoulides landed to a warm welcome in Cairo on 17 February, where he embarked on an official visit that was marked by the signing of two crucial energy agreements for the exploitation and commercialisation of Cyprus’ natural gas.

As he disembarked, Christodoulides was greeted on the red carpet by Egyptian officials and his government’s energy minister, George Papanastasiou.

He was then whisked to the Al Manara International Conference Centre, where the EGYPES 2025 exhibition was taking place, and was welcomed by President el-Sisi. The two Presidents then held a bilateral meeting.

They went on to inaugurate the eighth edition of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES) 2025, held in Cairo from 17-19 February, where they witnessed the signing of two agreements between Egypt and Cyprus to develop recently discovered Cypriot natural gas reserves using Egyptian infrastructure.

The event drew ministers, heads of global energy companies, secretaries of international and regional organisations, and members of the Egyptian government.
