Deputy Minster: Cyprus supports Greece's World Tourism Organisation candidacies

Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis has met with the Minister of Tourism of Greece, Olga Kefalogianni, in Athens.

During the 24 February meeting, issues of strengthening of bilateral and multilateral cooperation as well as coordination were discussed.  Kefalogianni requested and received Cyprus' support for Greece's dual candidacy to the World Tourism Organisation (UN Tourism) for the positions of Secretary General and member of the Executive Board.

In view of the upcoming Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, possible synergies between the two countries were explored and issues of mutual interest, such as sustainable tourism development and addressing the impact of climate change on tourism were also addressed. To this end the two sides decided to set up a bilateral cooperation committee.

Koumis expressed Cyprus' interest for cooperation in the Observatory for Coastal and Marine Tourism in the Mediterranean, an initiative set up by Greece.
