Cyprus Marine Club learns about 'New Standards for Vessel Vetting Excellence'

Cyprus Marine Club (CMC) hosted Members Get Together with a presentation from Petros Achytypis, CEO of Prevention at Sea.
The reception, on Tuesday, 25 February, was attended by more than 100 guests.

The President of Cyprus Marine Club, Capt. Eberhard Koch, in his opening statement, before giving the floor to the speaker, shared with attendees his contentment about the high number of participants, thanked all Annual Sponsors 2024/2025, and welcomed the new Diamond Sponsor of the Cyprus Marine Club- Omega 3 Zone Global.

The speaker of the evening, Petros Achytypis, the CEO of Prevention at Sea specialises in Safety Management Systems and simplification techniques, pre-vetting, data analysis, and pattern identification for improving the ship operator potentials and Safety Culture, research and development of state-of-the-art risk assessment mechanisms, investigations, and behavioral competency audits.

Through its innovative projects and achievements, Prevention at Sea has been recognised with two Lloyd’s List Awards, as well as the NAMEPA Innovation Award and the Tanker Shipping and Trade Technical Award in 2017 for their concept of ship electronic logbooks. The speaker, during his presentation titled 'New Standards for Vessel Vetting Excellence,' dwelled on how vetting helps in adopting a proactive mindset and prevention culture given that the industry is currently in the transition period and vetting is expected to become stricter and Rightship is here to stay. Achytypis elaborated on how dry bulk ship managers need to review their current ship management procedures and take action in a timely manner. Time and resources need to be invested to develop and maintain pre-vetting expertise. The speaker concluded that consistency amongst the vetting inspectors & standards is critical.
