Tax reform should be ready by Autumn, Finance Minister says

The tax reform project should be completed by the beginning of Autumn, Finance Minister Makis Keravnos has said, expressing his satisfaction for the first positive reactions he has received following the presentation of the government's proposed reform.

Keravnos was replying to journalists' questions on the sidelines of a 27 February event during which European Investment Bank's financial results for 2024 were presented at the Ministry of Finance.

Asked when the dialogue for the tax reform is expected to be completed, he said that there will be a consultation for the next three weeks with all interested parties. "We are open, as we have been up until now to views and recommendations," he added.

The proposed bill will then be available on the e-consultation platform for two weeks, he noted.

Once the Law Office has given the go ahead, the bill will be tabled at the House of Representatives.

The plan in place is for the project to be complete by the beginning of Autumn, he said, adding that so far there have been 50 consultations with social partners, organisations and others.

Tax reform, the Minister of Finance said, "is the basis on which the economy's growth trajectory will continue."
