The construction of the Cyprus Archaeological Museum, set to become a modern landmark with interactive exhibits and cutting-edge technology, is progressing as planned, Deputy Minister of Culture Vasiliki Kassianidou confirmed during a visit to the site.
A landmark cultural project
Kassianidou emphasised the ongoing collaboration with the Public Works Department, noting that while the project is complex and ambitious, it remains on schedule.
“This is a huge and architecturally complex project that will become a landmark for both our city and Cyprus,” she stated.
She also clarified the museum’s official name change from the New Cyprus Museum to the Cyprus Archaeological Museum, explaining that the updated name more accurately reflects its exclusive focus on archaeology, covering artefacts up to the end of the Roman period.

Preparing for the museum’s opening
To support the museum’s extensive collection, the Department of Antiquities has recruited 10 full-time conservators, dedicated to restoring and preserving objects that will be displayed. A museographic study has been completed to precisely map out the placement of each artefact.

In addition, the ministry has recently launched tenders for the museum’s technological infrastructure, which will include interactive screens, digital applications and innovative tools to enhance visitor engagement
Project timelines and next steps
When asked about the timeline, costs, and maintenance of the project, Kassianidou refrained from providing specifics, noting that these matters fall under the jurisdiction of the Department of Public Works and the Ministry of Transport.

Nonetheless, the project remains a priority cultural investment, promising to offer both locals and tourists an enriched experience of Cyprus’ archaeological heritage.
