Celine is a French luxury fashion house founded in 1945 by fashion designer Céline Vipiana.

Vipiana and her husband, Richard, created what is considered to be one of the first luxury brands in the industry when they launched Céline, a made-to-measure children's shoe business, and opened the brand's first boutique in Paris. The brand was recognised by its logo, the red elephant.

In 1960s, the brand decided to change its positioning by focusing its business on a ready-to-wear fashion brand for women with a couture sportswear approach. It offered a range of leather goods such as bags, loafers, gloves and clothes with Céline Vipiana remaining the brand's designer from 1945 until her retirement in 1987.

In 1964, the launch of the new fragrance ‘Vent fou’ and the new ‘American Sulky’ symbol used since 1967 on the accessories collection earned the brand even more success. A stylish trench coat became the fashion house's chief product. Prompted by the popularity of leather, meanwhile, Céline opened a leather goods boutique in Florence.

In 1972, Céline redesigned its logo with the intertwined "C" inspired by the chains of the Arc-de-Triomphe. Céline also began its global expansion with the opening of various boutiques in Monte Carlo, Geneva, Hong Kong, Lausanne, Toronto and Beverly Hills.

The brand's founders also wished to be part of a charitable association, so Richard Vipiana established the Céline-Pasteur Prize, a sponsor for the American Hospital of Paris in 1973.

In 1987, with the approval of the Vipiana family, Bernard Arnault purchased a portion of Céline's capital. In 1996, the brand was integrated into the LVMH group for 2.7 billion French francs ($540 million). LVMH propelled the house to further fame with the opening of a flagship boutique in Paris.

In 2018, the luxury fashion brand removed the accent from its name – a move implemented by its then new artistic and creative director Hedi Slimane. Michael Rider currently holds the post.

Meanwhile, the Parklane has also announced that Dior Men, Dior Women and Loewe boutiques are returning to Nammos Retail Village on the 29 March, while on 1 April Loro Piana boutique is opening its doors and the new Bottega Veneta monogram store is anticipated to open in June.

(As the Celine store at Nammos Retail Village is still being prepared to best showcase the brand's products, Celine stores at other international locations are pictured in this article.)
