Exploring the Oceans at the FIRST® LEGO® League Cyprus 2025 Robotics Event

The FIRST® LEGO® League Cyprus 2025 organized by the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS), was successfully completed on Saturday, 15 March, 2025, at the European University Cyprus.

The FLL Cyprus 2025 was addressed by the Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Research and Innovation Foundation, Mr. Demetris Skourides. The official address on behalf of the Minister of Education, Sport and Youth was delivered by Dr Elena Hadjikakou, Director of the Pedagogical Institute.

Andreas Loutsios, Vice President of CCS, and Nikolas Messaritis, Chief Technology Officer of ECOMMBX, also wished success to all participants.

This year’s event, titled 'Submerged,' welcomed 230 students from kindergartens, primary schools, gymnasiums, lyceums and technical schools, who were invited to explore the Ocean through creative robotics missions.

The FIRST® LEGO® League is the world's largest robotics league and enables children from 4 to 16 years old to participate in a unique festival through which they learn, interact, collaborate and have fun!

FLL Cyprus 2025 included 3 programs, addressing 3 age groups as follows:
• FLL Discover (event/expo): Ages 4 - 6
• FLL Explore (event/expo): Ages 6 - 10
• FLL Challenge (competition): Ages 9 - 16

Discover and Explore teams presented their robotic creations and received awards for programming, poster design, model construction, and the core values of FIRST® LEGO®.

In the FLL Challenge, teams presented innovative projects, while their robots completed missions on the thematic Robot Game field. At the end of the competition, the Scientific Committee announced the winning teams:

  • Champion Award: ROBOTHEADZ, STEM Education
  • Innovation Project Award: Robomak, TESEK Makarios III, Nicosia
  • Robot Game Performance Award: ROBOTHEADZ, STEM Education
  • Robot Design Award: LAOURIS NIKITA, Y. Laouris Informatique
  • Core Values Award: Dream Big II, Apoplous

The first and second-place teams will represent Cyprus in international competitions. Specifically, ROBOTHEADZ (STEM Education Cyprus) will participate in the FIRST® LEGO® League Championship in Houston, USA, this April. Robomak (TESEK Makarios III, Nicosia) will compete in the FIRST® LEGO® League Open International in Corinth, Greece, in May.

The sponsor of the International Participation of the FLL Challenge teams is the Research and Innovation Foundation.

FIRST® LEGO® League Cyprus 2025 was organized by CCS in collaboration with Eduact and IET Cyprus, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Youth.

This year's event was strengthened by ECOMMBX, which proudly supports the initiative as the “Powered by” Sponsor.

FLL Cyprus 2025 was hosted by the European University Cyprus and supported by XM as Tech Partner.

In addition to the robotics activities, the event also featured team-building and fun activities for participants and visitors, all connected to the Oceans theme. The organizations CIIM, Enalia Physis, and UCY Oceanography will offer parallel activities related to marine life in Cyprus and beyond. The event is also supported by Robo.com.cy, O3, and ICDL.

The FLL Cyprus 2025-Submerged event is an endorsed action of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
