Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanolis participated as a speaker at the European Shipping Summit, organised by the European Shipowners' Association, between 19 and 20 March in Brussels.

The Deputy Minister of Shipping took part in the panel discussion on 'Building Industrial Capacity: The Skills Challenge,'' during which she underlined the need to ensure the competitiveness of European shipping, promoting, among other things, specific actions and policies for the retraining and upgrading of human resources in the maritime industry.

Also, referring to the forecasts for a future shortage of properly trained personnel, she noted that the shipping sector should become more inclusive and accessible to women, who have proven that they can respond effectively and successfully to the particular demands of the seafaring profession.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Deputy Minister of Shipping had a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Transport and Communications of Finland, Lulu Ranne, where they discussed issues of common interest, as well as the challenges facing European and global shipping. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries on maritime transport issues.

In the context of the visit , Hadjimanolis held a meeting with the Cypriot MEPs, and informed them about the national positions regarding European and global shipping, as well as about the actions and initiatives of the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, during the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU.
