Ismail Ersahin: Cyprus is a prime example of how PPPs and largescale projects can help economic growth

“Cyprus is a prime example of how public-private partnerships (PPPs) and largescale projects can help a country’s economic growth,” Ismail Ersahin, Executive Director and CEO, World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA), told a Nicosia summit, as he pointed to the country’s success in attracting investors and relocating businesses, especially in finance, hospitality, logistics and technology.

As he pointed out, PPPs ensure that largescale projects are successfully executed. They also bring in capital, technology and knowhow, he said, addressing the Unlocking Investment Through PPP International Summit taking place at the Hilton Nicosia.

WAIPA, said Ersahin, is here to provide its support and expertise to Invest Cyprus, which is the body responsible for connecting the two sides – that is, the public and private sectors – in its effort to incroproate PPPs in its national investment strategy.

Another very important role of PPPs is to provide bankable projects, he said among other, before stressing: “When the investor steps into the country, facilitation is key. Make life easier for investors.”

The international summit is organised by Invest Cyprus, WAIPA and the World Association of PPP Units & PPP Professionals (WAPPP).

“This summit represents a crucial step in unlocking the true potential of PPPs and their potential to lead Cyprus to sustainable growth,” said Ersahin, adding that it brings together stakeholders to share their expertise and experience.

Concluding, he highlighted how PPPs not only attract investment, but drive sustainable long-term growth as well.

The “Unlocking Investment Through PPP International Summit” is addressed to Cyprus government officials involved in PPP, C-level executives of companies from all sectors of the economy involved or interested in PPP or PPI, and members of WAPPP and WAIPA.

The Summit has been organised by Invest Cyprus, the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) and World Association of PPP Units & PPP Professionals (WAPPP).

EY Cyprus is Gold Sponsor, Hermes Airports is Silver Sponsor, and the European Investment Bank is the Knowledge Sponsor.

It is being coordinated by IMH and is taking place under the auspices of the Republic of Cyprus.
