Cyprus Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology Demetris Skourides, was presented with the Global Leader award during the 2025 Global Business Conclave awards ceremony in London.

The award ceremony took place in the House of Lords, in Westminster, in the presence of important personalities, such as Lord Meghnad Desai, Baroness Sandip Verma, former ministers and ambassadors, who delivered keynote speeches on the importance of leadership and inspiring future generations, a press release from the Chief Scientist's office said.

The Global Business Conclave Awards are the premier interdisciplinary forum for global leaders, government officials, opinion leaders, CEOs, entrepreneurs, leading figures in the fields of finance, technology, human resources, marketing and communications, as well as women leaders who are shaping the future of global entrepreneurship, technology and sustainable development, it added.

It is noted furthermore that the award presented to Skourides who is recognised among the top 100 international leaders for 2025 out of 5,000 nominations, is not only a personal distinction for his efforts in internationalising the research and innovation ecosystem of Cyprus, but also a significant distinction for the country itself.

It underlined that through the establishment of strategic partnerships, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and innovative programmes, this distinction gives special value to Cyprus, creating great opportunities for its business ecosystem.

During the ceremony Skourides said that they have a "responsibility to create new opportunities for Cyprus" and highlighted Cyprus' exceptionally high standards in research excellence. He added that distinctions such as the one he received, mark the transformation of Cyprus into a key player in the international economy of knowledge, services, research and innovation.

Skourides, the press release said, was included in the Denim Club, G100, participating in the Global Advisory Board for Humanity, Innovation and Technology as part of the Women’s Economic Forum’s (WEF) G100 Mission Millions as a Global Advisor.

The Denim Club, G100, is an exclusive, high-impact network of leaders with direct influence on policymakers, international institutions and economic forums.

According to the press release, the members of the Board are selected based on their merit and the board is composed of prominent figures in the fields of technology, governance, business and academia. It is also added that the G100 plays a decisive role in shaping policies that promote digital transformation, innovation and sustainable economic growth at a global level.

Skourides expressed his sincere appreciation to the event organisers and his gratitude to all the distinguished participants and visionaries, whose work is shaping the industries of tomorrow.

He said that this distinction reinforces his commitment to creating a future characterised by cutting-edge technologies, sustainable progress and global collaboration. Cyprus, he noted, is not just adapting to the future but is actively shaping it.
