According to a press release from the Chief Scientist's office, from 23 to 25 April Cyprus participated in the international GITEX Asia 2025 exhibition in Singapore, for the first time. The Chief Scientist, together with Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Indonesia, Nikos Panayiotou, had the opportunity to meet with Temasek, the national funding body for research, technological development and innovation in Singapore, as well as with start-ups, service providers and investment funds, promoting Cyprus as a gateway to the EU market.
Furthermore, it says that several meetings led to expressions of interest from Indonesian companies, which specialize in the integration of systems with a focus on Artificial Intelligence, to explore investment opportunities in Cyprus.
In addition, during the visit, Skourides agreed with UNIMOTTO of South Korea to consider Cyprus’ participation in the largest Global Startup Festival in South Korea in 2025.
“Building on the recent visit to Silicon Valley — the world’s largest technology hub — under the leadership of President Nikos Christodoulides, the opportunity to build a bridge with two of the world’s most technologically advanced countries, South Korea (ranked 3rd) and Singapore (ranked 5th), will accelerate the commercialisation of Cyprus’ startups and attract investment to Cyprus from Asia,” the press release says.
It is noted that the participation of Cyprus in the GITEX Asia 2025 exhibition, "was a strategic milestone in efforts to build bridges between Europe and Asia, strengthening its position as a hub of innovation, research and technology."
The press release adds that under the leadership of the Chief Scientist and the Ambassador the mission paved the way for future collaborations with key regional actors, from state funds and start-ups to leaders in the shipping and climate technology sectors.
These contacts are aligned with the Vision 2035 strategy and the strategy for attracting investments, strengthening international partnerships and developing start-ups in Cyprus, making the country a major player on the global innovation map, it concludes.
